Off the coast of Japan lies the small island of Awashima, home to a tiny post office unique for collecting undeliverable correspondence letters that never reached their intended destinations, from Japan and around the world. Risa arrives on Awashima one cold, clear morning to help at this small, neglected post office. The island, though beautiful, is fading: schools are closing, its inhabitants are aging, and the young no longer want to live in the middle of the sea. Yet Risa has chosen to come out of love. Her father was an unconventional, deeply devoted postman whose life mission was to make sure nothing was ever truly lost. From a young age, she admired his dedication as he searched for missing recipients, tracked down lost addresses, and carefully preserved letters sent to no one, so they wouldn't be discarded.
